Hubba Hubba NX2 Camping Tent

Are you ready to upgrade your tent? Or do you just want to start out with one of the top rated Motorcycle Camping Tents available from the start? Well then, look no further than the Hubba Hubba NX2 Camping Tent by MSR. With a 4.7 rating and over 300 reviews on Amazon, this tent stands up to its reputation. Speaking of reputation, MSR gets high marks for after the sale support. Multiple owners have stated that MSR has sent them new parts when, in the rare occasions, a component has failed. A great product from a company that stands behind their merchandise - that is music to my ears! As if this wasn't enough, MSR claims that the majority of their products are made in their own factories in Seattle, USA, Reno, USA, and Midleton, Ireland.

When choosing a tent for transporting on a motorcycle, one of the first characteristics you look for is its size. You want to make sure it will fit into the compartment or bag you have in mind. Even if you plan on strapping a tent to your passenger seat, you want to make sure it will not obstruct your ability to handle your motorcycle and that you will have enough room for the rest of your camping gear. This tent is extremely portable and packs up pretty small. Rolled up, it compresses down to 18 inches wide by only 6 inches in diameter. This will fit inside some larger saddle or sissy bar bags with room leftover. Having some extra room is perfect since we highly recommend getting a footprint to go along with this tent. You will want to protect the waterproof, but thin, bottom of your tent by using a footprint tarp. This one: MSR Universal 2-Person Tent Footprint Tarp will fit the bill nicely. It will at about a half a pound to your gear weight and packs down to only 10 inches X 10 inches X 1 inch high.

What makes the Hubba Hubba one of the best tents for Motorcycle Camping? The right mix of quality and design, of course. In 2019 MSR redesigned the Hubba Hubba to include a couple of notable upgrades. First, they replaced the aluminum poles with a stronger aerospace grade composite material. The last thing you want is for a support pole to fail in the middle of a rain storm. The upgraded pole construction will add to your peace of mind. The second upgrade includes MSR using an improved waterproof coating that they call "Xtreme Shield". Marketing name aside, this new waterproofing process makes the Hubba Hubba waterproof for 3 times longer than the competition.

As far as design goes, the Hubba Hubba NX2 is a 2-person, freestanding dome style camping tent. It has a 50 inch by 84 inch sleeping floor area, enough room for 2 sleeping bags and a few essential items. And with a peak interior height of 39 inches, you will have enough head room to be comfortable. But you say you need to store your (dirty, wet, bulky) gear somewhere? Well, the Hubba Hubba has you covered.

Or should I say, the 2 vestibules will have your gear covered. You and your camping partner will each have your own space to store your helmet, riding jacket, and boots. This not only saves space inside the tent, but will also keep the dirt and mud out. The inside also sports dust pockets and loops for hanging lights. These are features you may not find in the budget tent category.

To round off the design features, the Hubba Hubba can be used with our without the rain fly. If you are planning a night of star gazing, you can leave off the rain fly and stare through the large mesh panels above. During the hot and dry season, this will provide plenty of ventilation for you throughout the night. But it isn't either/or. MSR has thought of everything by including vents in the rain fly that can be opened or closed. The vents on the rain fly are designed to keep the water out when it is raining.

Setup and tear down is easy and will take under 5 minutes, each. If you do get caught in the rain before deploying the Hubba Hubba, you can setup the rain fly first, keeping the main cabin dry as you complete the setup.

No product is perfect. We were able to spot a handful of negative comments on this tent. A few users had issues during their first uses of their new tent. For example, one user reported that there was a leak during a "mild rain shower". A couple of other users noted that there were leaks at the seams and/or the stitching failed in some areas. There were also a couple of cases of broken poles - although one admittingly stated that they tripped and fell on the tent. Regardless, in every case, the owners said that MSR honored the warranty and covered all of these incidents by sending new parts out. Despite the report of leaks being few and far between, we recommend using a product like Seam Grip by GEAR AID on any tent that you plan on using in wet conditions. A little extra precaution never hurts.
